In January 2008 I made the Otherworlds installation while at the Vermont Studio Center. The space is a white cube gallery, roughly twice as long as it is wide. Walking into the space, the projectors confront the viewer. Turning right, the image of a blue planet floats on the far wall. Otherwise, the room is empty, dark, and cold.
A meditative piece creating a scale/ perspective shift for the viewer, I am thinking about the ways I can reinvent the interaction between the viewer and the earth. Playfully, the projectors placement in the room invites participation; sliding a hand or a body into the beams of light animates the image's atmosphere, causing the clouds to move and the colors to change. |
